2012 Sioux Falls Ballooning Association Long Flight Challenge

Objective: To be a fun and social longer flight competition that all hot air balloon pilots can compete in. Also, we want to make it simple to enter, compete and document.

Overview: Instead of having different balloon size categories, there will be a simple handicap system. A handicap system will also be used to compensate for the different amount of fuel loads that different balloons will carry.

Trophies: Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, plus best flight story.

Competition Flight Window: January 1, 2012 to March 15, 2012.

Who Can Enter: Open to all U.S. hot air balloon pilots

Cost to Enter: Free

Rules

1) Maximum balloon size allowed is AX-8.
2) AX-8 balloons need to carry the minimum weight equivalent of three adults.
3) AX-7 and smaller balloons must carry the minimum weight equivalent of two adults.
4) Maximum onboard fuel capacity allowed is 40 gallons.
5) Balloons with 40 gallons capacity must inflate with their own onboard fuel.
6) Balloons with less than 40 gallons are allowed to use a separate fuel tank for inflation.
7) Maximum flight altitude allowed is 5000 feet AGL.
8) SFBA documentation claim forms must be filled out and returned.
